THE DREAM IS ALIVE

Mid February 2003, Aldrico Azagra (class 1973) and wife Bembem went to the United States in search of sponsors for their youngest daughter, Marielle, suffering from many disabilities. On February 23rd on their way back from Toronto, Canada to Detroit, an unfortunate incident happened. Aldrico was one of two fatalities in a car accident during the thick of a snow squall enveloping Southern Ontario that evening.

The Azagra family's dream for Marielle lives on. Outpouring of sympathy and support for Marielle's scheduled operation continue to come. A lot of Quezon High graduates was buoyed by affection for this young girl.

The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude for the kindhearted souls supporting Marielle.

Gilbert Azagra (class 71) elder brother of Aldrico posts this message: "At this time, we the brothers and sisters of Al, and Elena Azagra (the wife) and their children - - Bambino, Mikka and Marielle, are already thanking you so much for what you have done and what you are doing for Marielle. May God bless you and your family even more!!!"

We can make a difference to Marielle's life by supporting our fund drive for her medical support. While you can remit your financial help straight to the Azagra family, those who desire to remit donations to QNHS STRIDES 100 account for this cause can do so following the instructions indicated under the NEWS icon of this site.

Below are some important points from Marielle's psychological report dated Sept. 30, 2000. Marielle was then 7 years and 6 days during the assessment period. (She was born on Aug. 25, 1993.)

Marielle, a visually impaired young girl, is the youngest of three children, the two older being a brother and a sister. She was born full term by caesarean section with many congenital deformities, cleft uvula, cleft palate, club feet, retinal detachment, retinal fold and cataract. Right after birth, she was placed in plaster cast to correct her club feet. She had operations to repair her uvula, congenital hernia, and to remove a sub-mandibular mass.
