2012: Quezon High 110th Anniversary |
|

| |
Quezon High 110 Foundation is being
marked in 2012 aboard a cruise ship sailing Eastern
Caribbean March 18 by a mini group of alumni and
friends, in a fund- raising dinner dance in Toronto
July 7th and in a big celebration with parade
and day long programs on October 2nd, 2012 in
Lucena. "Let her name stand forever, symbol
bright of shining luster" so goes the Alma Mater song.
Throw away that Mayan calendar. It isn't
doomsday. It's party time !!!!
An adventure on a grand scale, some Quezon High grads,
families and friends sail March 18, 2012
to celebrate the 110th anniversary foundation of the
school aboard Allure
of the Seas, the biggest, brightest and most
innovative cruiseship to date. Broadway shows,
line dance and outdoor excursions are on schedule for
those interested in joining. The year 2012 marks the
110th anniversary when The Thomasites, the US fleet of
teachers who boarded a ship via USS Thomas to
rehabilitate the Philippines settled in the country
and ended up with the founding of the then Tayabas
High School in 1902, the second oldest high school in
the Philippines.
Allure of the Seas had
its maiden voyage last Dec 5, 2010. Eastern
Caribbean route for 7 days starts from Ft.
Lauderdale, Florida to Nassau, Bahamas; St. Thomas,
Virgin Islands; St. Maarten, Netherland Antilles and
back to Ft. Lauderdale . Other activities
include karaoke, aqua theater watching, ice games,
stand-up comedy session and lots of shopping at ports
of call. Allure has
Central Park piazza, Royal Promenade, Aqua Theater,
Pool and Sports Zone and many other facilities
unrivalled by other ships for those interested to
join. Reservations are on first-
come- first- served basis. Visit www.edcruz.cruiseshipcenters.ca or
call agent Ed Cruz, toll free 1-877-633-7245 or 416-226-6667. Quoting
"STRIDES", those interested from USA, Canada and
other parts of the world can join us in celebration. All aboard,
make the unimaginable become starkling realities
! Join the excitement and fun while we reminisce our
good ol' Quezon High glory. For more info: Bal
Yujuico, 416-223-3145; Rolly Vallena, 416-285-1671,

travel insurance strongly recommended.

PAG presents Hairspray
The QNHS Perfoming Arts Guild, previously the
Dramatics Club in the 60's will stage Hairspray; The Musical on
March 7-9, 2011 at the Benigno S. Aquino Social Hall in Lucena
City. This endeavor is the annual culminating activity of the
organization. It a spectacle of theatrics with fusion of songs
and dance. PAGsters are in charge of pre and post production
which includes props making, stage and lights design, voice
harmony, choreography, hair and make-up as well as tarpaulin
layout.
Majority of the members belong to the top 20% of their
respective classes from the different curricular years and
programs and excel in different academic adn co-curricular
activities of the school.
Dr. Cristeta Asilo directs the musical. She is also the adviser
and proud Batch 69-er. Joining her is Ms. Nora Daelo Llegado,
music coach and fellow batchmate. Miss Venmar Ruanto, Principal
IV and Ms. Concepcion Alcantara are consultants of the QNHS PAG.
QNHS PAG is where stars shine brightest. It shall continue the
legacy that is Dramatics Club.
With this year's catch phase coined by the PAGsters themselves,
"kaPAG PAGka, mamamayagPAG!" the organization proves worth its
salt as a constellation of stars.

Toronto Ballroom Dance
Raises Funds for QNHS desks and classrooms |
By Bal Yujuico
Two
seven-foot benches, two blackboards. One with a hole in the middle.
Ten lucky girls occupy the benches squezzed side by side while the rest
of the class sit on the concrete floor littered with some tetrapaks left
over by the previous class. Meanwhile, the literature teacher inside
the class had to speak in high decibels to beat the noise of students
outside eager to occupy the same room for the next class.
