Quezon High Fundraiser Features
Nostalgia ‘Dance-O-Rama’

By Bal Yujuico

Quezon National High School Alumni Association of Toronto will feature the legendary and nostalgic ‘Dance-O-Rama’ theme for 2009 fundraising event on June 20 to be held at the Malvern Community Center.

It will be down memory lane as the music, fabulously fancy footworks and dance steps of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s will dominate the ballroom.

Those of you who embraced the esoteric vinyl records of the 3 decades will find it enthralling to dance once more the cha-cha, wa-tuwa-tusi, the jerk, mambo, twist and all the whatchamacallits of the crazy nutty stuff of that period when life was our oyster.

When was the last time you watched Night Owl Dance party and Dance-O-Rama on television in Manila during the early sixties? Remember Lito Gorospe, Eddie Mercado and Baby O’Brien as they select the best dressed girl of the night to rival Dick Clark’s American Bandstand.

And the winner is ……….ta dahh…. as the Celtics and Orly Ilacad and the Ramrods play those oddball records.

The alumni group in summer of 2008 held a sellout Hawaiian-Pacific Luau party attended by some 350 guests last June. Proceeds for 2008 fund-raising went to finance the school’s marching band uniforms and musical instruments to encourage more student participation and provide incentives for students to excel in the field of arts and music.
Copacabana, It’s Latin, A Night of Ballroom Dancing were the past themes of the different dinner dance fund raisers.

Major sponsors have expressed support for QNHS alumni association for 2009.

Photos and video of the project can be seen on their website: www.quezonhigh.ca
